“Last year I went on a random  drive through the Champlain Valley. I could see the Adirondacks on one side of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains on the other, and I was just inspired. I had always hiked but not seriously, so a couple weeks later I started hiking pretty regularly. Built myself up so I could come up here to the Whites. Winter hiking is my favorite. You are less likely to see someone on  the trail, so there’s a lot of solitude. It’s also more difficult and you have to plan more. When you’re hiking above the clouds, it’s very mysterious… Scary at times, but it can also be very therapeutic.”
